Another important chapter in the history of Summit Dog & Cat Hospital began with Dr. James M. Dorney, DVM.
Dr. Dorney was a Cornell University graduate and became associated with Dr. Engle at Summit Dog and Cat Hospital in 1964. This relationship is documented in a 1971 Summit Herald article, which identifies Dr. Dorney as part of the Summit veterinary community and as Dr. Engle’s associate at the hospital.
Dr. Dorney’s connection with Summit Dog & Cat Hospital therefore began decades ago, during a period when veterinary medicine was rapidly developing and the hospital was continuing to grow.
Historical records subsequently document Dr. Dorney as the sole owner of Summit Dog & Cat Hospital. Dr. Dorney’s long association with the hospital represents an important continuation of the veterinary practice established by Dr. Engle.
Dr. Alina is a dedicated veterinarian at Summit Dog & Cat Hospital, providing compassionate, personalized veterinary care for dogs, cats, exotic pets, and pocket pets. Her areas of interest include preventive medicine, wellness care, urgent care, pain management, chronic disease management, and veterinary surgery.
Dr. Alina earned her bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Amherst College before graduating from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. Since then, she has practiced in Central New York in general veterinary practice, where she has developed broad clinical experience caring for pets with a wide range of medical and surgical needs.
Dr. Alina enjoys every aspect of veterinary medicine, from routine wellness examinations and vaccinations to diagnosing and managing illness, providing urgent care, managing chronic conditions and pain, and performing surgery. She has a particular interest in veterinary surgery, but she equally values the opportunity to establish lasting relationships with pets and their families through comprehensive primary care.
In addition to her work with dogs and cats, Dr. Alina provides veterinary care for exotic and pocket pets. She recognizes that these unique companion animals have specialized medical, nutritional, and husbandry needs and takes an individualized approach to helping each patient receive appropriate, attentive care.
At Summit Dog & Cat Hospital, Dr. Alina is committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based veterinary medicine in a compassionate and welcoming environment. She understands that a visit to the veterinarian can be stressful for both pets and their owners, and she strives to make every appointment as comfortable and positive as possible.
Her approach to veterinary medicine centers on listening to pet owners, understanding each patient as an individual, and working together with families to make informed decisions about their pet’s health. Whether providing preventive care, treating illness, managing pain, caring for an exotic or pocket pet, or performing surgery, Dr. Alina’s goal is the same: to help every patient live a healthier, happier life while strengthening the special bond between pets and the families who love them.
