We connect donated pet food and supplies with local organizations serving people and families who need them.
When a family is going through a difficult financial period, keeping a pet fed can become an unexpected challenge.
Summit Dog and Cat Hospital helps connect donated pet food and supplies with local organizations serving people and families who need assistance. Our goal is to help available resources reach pets who need them while working through the community organizations already supporting their owners.
When donated pet food is available, we provide it through community partnerships rather than operating a public pet food pantry. Our partners may include:
Summit Dog and Cat Hospital does not operate a public walk-in pet food pantry. If you are an individual or family looking for pet food help in Summit, NJ, please start with the organization already assisting you. For example, if you are receiving support from a veteran organization or homeless service agency, ask that organization to contact us about available pet food resources.
Please do not call the veterinary hospital requesting free pet food as an individual. We distribute donated resources through community partnerships so that our veterinary team can focus on caring for our patients while partner organizations handle assistance for their clients.
When food is available, donated supplies may be provided to participating organizations for distribution to eligible clients. Because everything depends on donations, we cannot guarantee:
We will communicate current availability to participating organizations.
Our community partnerships may assist people and families in Summit and throughout Union County. Communities we may serve include, but are not limited to:
Summit
Union
Westfield
Springfield
Short Hills
Millburn
Livingston
Chatham
Madison
Berkeley Heights
New Providence
Mountainside
We may also work with organizations serving clients in nearby New Jersey communities. Availability depends on donations and the participating organization.
Our pet food assistance is not a direct-to-consumer free pet food program. If you need assistance, the best first step is to contact a community organization already working with you. If you represent an organization that serves veterans, people experiencing homelessness, families facing financial hardship, or other community members with pets, you can contact Summit Dog and Cat Hospital to discuss available resources.
Yes. We welcome unwanted or extra pet food, toys, and other usable pet supplies in our front lobby. Donated items are passed along through our community partnerships to help pets whose families are experiencing hardship. Every usable donation can help.
A temporary financial hardship doesn’t change the bond between a person and their pet. When our clients and community partners have resources to share, we’re proud to help connect those resources with organizations serving local families. For us, community assistance is about working together: our hospital, our clients, local organizations, and the people who care deeply about keeping pets healthy and with the families who love them.
