Veterinary Care for Veterans

Referral-based veterinary support for eligible veterans and their pets, through participating veteran assistance organizations.

Veterinary Support for Veterans and Their Pets

At Summit Dog and Cat Hospital, we understand that pets can be an important source of companionship, stability, and comfort.

Through participating veteran assistance programs, we provide veterinary support for eligible veterans and their pets when they are referred to us through a participating organization. This program is one way we can support veterans while caring for the animals who are part of their families.

What Is Veterinary Care for Veterans?

Veterinary care for veterans is assistance provided through participating veteran organizations and referral programs. Depending on the organization and individual referral, eligible veterans may receive covered veterinary services and, when available through the program, pet food assistance.

This is not a general free veterinary program

Veterans must be referred through a participating veteran assistance organization. Eligibility, covered services, and available benefits can vary by program.

Why Veterinary Support Matters

A veterinary expense can be difficult to manage when a household is already dealing with financial changes or other challenges. For many veterans, a pet also provides companionship, routine, and a steady presence during periods of transition.

Helping an eligible veteran maintain their pet’s health can help preserve that relationship while the veteran receives support from the community organizations already working with them. Our role is to provide veterinary care when an appropriate referral has been established.

What May Be Covered?

Depending on the participating program and referral, assistance may include eligible veterinary services and pet food. Because every participating program can have different requirements, we cannot promise a particular:

Coverage must be confirmed through the referring organization.

How to Request Veterinary Assistance

If you’re a veteran looking for veterinary assistance, please begin with the veteran assistance organization currently helping you.

1

Start with your organization

Ask whether it participates in a program that can refer you to Summit Dog and Cat Hospital.

2

The referral is established

If the organization establishes a referral, our team can work with them to understand the available benefits.

3

We coordinate your pet’s care

Your participating organization can contact Summit Dog and Cat Hospital at (908) 273-2200.

Please Do Not Call the Hospital Requesting General Free Veterinary Care

This program is referral-based. We do not offer free veterinary care to the general public, and simply being a veteran does not automatically qualify someone for complimentary veterinary services. If you already have a referral, your participating organization can contact Summit Dog and Cat Hospital at (908) 273-2200.

Our Commitment to Veterans

We’re grateful to the veterans who have served our country, and we’re honored when our hospital can play a role in helping care for the pets who are part of their families. If your veteran assistance organization refers you to us, our team will work with the organization to understand your available benefits and provide appropriate veterinary care for your pet.
